Airbus unveils new ‘bird of prey’ design

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has created a concept aircraft inspired by the natural features of eagles, hawks and other aerial predators. It is a beautiful design indeed. As per Airbus statement, this design is ‘inspired by efficient mechanics of a bird, it has wing and tail structures that mimic those of a bird of prey, while featuring individually controlled feathers that provide active flight control.’ The aircraft would be capable of carrying up to 80 passengers and would burn 30%-50% less fuel than comparable aircraft in operation today. But you won’t get to travel in this soon as it is just an idea. According to Airbus ‘the goal of motivating the next generation of aeronautical engineers, underscoring how they can make a difference by applying technologies.’ Hope this article inspires you to take a closer look a the birds in your neighborhood.

Hope you know about what biomimicry is? It is the study of nature, its models, systems, processes, and elements to take inspiration from and to use these ideas to solve human problems. The goal is to create a product or a process that can be adapted as a sustainable, long term solution to life.
